Prevention, Health and Social Care Promotion for HIV-Positive Women and Children in the Sverdlovsk Region

The article presents the results of the study aimed at investigating the epidemiological features of HIV infection among wom­en and children in the Sverdlovsk region and to assess the prevention, medical and social programs impact. The study was performed for the period of 1990–2012, epidemiological, sociological and statistical methods were used. By 2012 it was set a steady increase in the share of women in the HIV-infected. At the age under 29 the proportion of women among people living with HIV prevails over men. Sexual transmission of HIV among women reached 70.0 %, prevalence of pregnant women — 2.0 %. Due to inter-departmental prevention programs and integrated health and social care there was increased the level of chemoprophylaxis among pregnant women and mother-to-child transmission of HIV decreased to 3.9 %.
